Some of the techniques I like to use while tube fishing are:

  • wacky
  • drop-shot
  • jerkbaits
  • spinnerbaits
  • crankbaits
A great place to learn how to fish these techniques is this website, Bass Resource.

Float tube fishing

Float tube fishing is a very fun way to fish for bass and crappie. A float tube fisherman can get into coves and tight shallow places that even a bass boat cannot get into. Also, in a float tube, one can sneak up on a bass without them even knowing it.

There are many brands of float tubes with a couple of styles, i.e., the U shape and the donut shape. I personally use a U shape type, the
Outcast Fish Cat 4. The shape of this tube and the heavy gauge vinyl on the bottom make this float tube slide across the water with ease. Located on the top side of the tube, there are two large storage compartments with a zipper. This tube also has two drink holders.

Just as float tubes, there are various types of fins one can use to propel themselves across the water. One particular type I do not recommend are the paddle pushers.

Paddle pushers as they are called propel one forward instead of going backwards. This is a lot slower and much more difficult to accomplish. It is much easier to maneuver backwards.

There are many accessories one can purchase or make at home for a float tube. Items like a fish finder platform, rod holders, live well and so on.
